Hope everyone has digested well after the last holiday to prepare for the food to come. We build events around meals. Whichever custom you follow, something tasty awaits after the religious part is done. Decorate a tree, light a candle; Let’s Eat!!
Just a word about food and medicine: Most of the time it does not matter, but sometimes it’s critical to time the pill and the meal. Thyroid medication, for instance, needs to be taken on an empty stomach and no food or vitamins for 30 minutes thereafter. It takes half an hour for most pills to get absorbed through the stomach.
Some pills do better when taken with food. Augmentin is an antibiotic that can cause diarrhea on its own, but much less if eaten with a meal. Pain relievers such as ibuprofen will bother your stomach if used without food. The meal buffers the stomach to avoid the irritation from the pill.
Some meds need to be taken on an empty stomach and then food should be eaten after 30 minutes to get the most benefit. Acid reducers such as omeprazole will work better if followed closely by calories. Pay attention to the details on your prescription to make sure that you use optimal timing to get the greatest effectiveness of your medication.
